Knutsford 6 Oldershaw 10
KNUTSFORD’S rugby players battled the elements – as well as stubborn opponents – in a narrow defeat at the Academy on Saturday.
Blues matched their heavier opponents on a pitch made sodden by a torrential downpour in the moments before kick off, though they could not convert their possession into points.
Oldershaw were opportunist when taking the lead, touching down a try they could not convert.
A second score followed shortly afterwards to make it 10-0, but Knutsford replied with two penalty conversions courtesy of Alex Wilson.
The rain did not relent for the second half, though Geoff Crawford’s men – with man of the match Jack Field in impressive form – did begin to dominate proceedings as their guests tired.
They were resolute in defence too, but still could not find a way through at the other end of the pitch to score the points their endeavour deserved.
Knutsford remain penultimate last in the South Lancs/Cheshire Division Three standings, travelling to Wallasey this weekend for the return match. Kick off is at 2.15pm.
The senior squad is keen to recruit new players, with training sessions scheduled for every Thursday at the Academy from 7.15pm.
