RON Skilling, from Knutsford Tri Club, was best in class at Saturday’s Cheshire Cross Country Championships in Warrington.

He was first to finish in the men’s over 60s age category at Birchwood Forest Park, timing 56:22 to place narrowly outside the top 100 overall in the senior men’s race.

Jonathan Metcalfe and Thomas Hardman, also in Knutsford colours, were both among the first 50 to cross the line at the end of a 10km race in boggy conditions.

Clubmate Richard Kellett was 51st.

Miranda Taylor completed the senior women’s race in 47:42 to claim a creditable 35th position, fifth in the over 45s age group.
