KNUTSFORD driver Oliver Webb has accepted an invitation to take part in the prestigious Dunlop 24H Dubai race next month.

He will be behind the wheel of Leipert Motorsport’s Lamborghini Gallardo for the endurance race at the Dubai Autodrome, scheduled to start on January 9.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity,” he said.

“I competed in my first 24-hour GT race at Spa earlier this year, which was a new challenge for me but I really enjoyed it.

“The team has a strong record in Dubai previously, so I can feel confident.”

The 22-year-old travelled to Baku, in Azerbaijan, last month with Fortec Motorsport for the final round of the FIA GT series.

Along with fellow Cheshire ace Benji Hetherington, they qualified the Northamptonshire outfit’s Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 machine inside the top 20.

The duo claimed 15th position in a qualifying race shortly afterwards, though their participation in the feature race was ended early due to damage caused by debris from another incident ahead on track.

Webb said: “I’d never been to Azerbaijan before, so it was great to be part of the team for what was a fantastic experience on the streets of Baku.

“The circuit was challenging, and new to all of the drivers, but we showed good pace throughout.

“It’s just a shame we couldn’t bring the car home in the second race, but sometimes things like that happen in motorsport.”
