THE spirit of Knutsford’s players was epitomised as they scored the final try of Saturday’s encounter with only 12 players on the field.

Man of the match Sam Catling touched down with the last play of a difficult game - after which coach Geoff Crawford commended his side’s commitment.

Preparations for the South Lancashire Cheshire Division Three clash with third-placed Prenton were dealt a blow when Knutsford lost the services of Giles Robertson due to an illness.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, the Blues started on the front foot and delivered a competitive display in a first half that ended 12-0.

Knutsford were still in the game and they looked to keep going their positive play in the second period.

They did so for the first 10 minutes, but then conceded a converted try following a quickly-taken tap penalty.

There was no way back when Jon Fuller and Frazer Crawford were lost to shoulder injuries, leaving the visitors three men down.

Prenton capitalised on the situation, scoring three additional tries before Catling crossed for a deserved consolation effort.

Knutsford, who remain second from bottom in the standings, will next be in action at home to Trentham on January 4, kick off 2.15pm.

There will be no training over the next fortnight, with sessions to recommence at the Academy’s Lower School the previous Thursday from 7.15pm.

Additional players would be made welcome at the club and more details can be obtained from Steve Mooney on 07891 488427.
