Knutsford 5 Timperley 2nd 4

KNUTSFORD prepared in the best possible way for this weekend’s Cheshire Plate semi final, recording a fourth successive win in the North West Men’s League.

They also exacted revenge on opponents who beat them on the season’s opening day, coming from behind four times to take maximum points at Westfield Drive.

Timperley went ahead after converting from close range, only for Tom Howard to level.

Three goals followed in the next five minutes, starting with a deflected effort that restored the visitors’ lead.

The Black Knights replied with a stylish second, Stuart Kenyon and Simon Trenbirth combining to tee up Howard who deflected the ball high into the net.

After half time, skipper Mat Hodge claimed Knutsford’s third leveller when he converted Johnny Price’s assist.

Maintaining the pattern of goals, the visitors edged ahead again shortly afterwards.

When Buxton was shown a yellow card for dissent, the Black Knights’ winning run was under threat and goalkeeper Jason Punshon made a reflex save to keep them in touching distance.

Howard turned provider for the hosts’ fourth, pulling back for Johnny Price, before David Price popped up with the contest’s decisive goal after an hour.

Knutsford will hope for more of the same when they host Triton on Saturday, push back 2pm.
