A KNUTSFORD Academy footballer is getting among the goals after making it through several rounds to be selected for the county squad.

The school boasted seven players in the Cheshire Schools’ FA under 18s, the most represented in this year’s group, at the beginning of the season, before the pool was whittled down.

Ryan Masterson, Alex Perkins, George Riley, Jack Mason, Jack Pritchard, Joshua Sarmanto and Shaqueel Reid were all selected, with Masterson the sole survivor.

The Cheshire side travelled to the north east on Saturday where they went down 4-2 to Durham, though Knutsford’s Masterson getting on the scoresheet.

The boys were previously unbeaten in the Northern Counties Schools’ FA’s West Division after a draw with Greater Manchester and putting four past Lancashire.

The Cheshire squad face Merseyside in the English Schools’ FA Inter County Trophy third round on Saturday after smashing West Yorkshire 5-0.
