CRICKET: Toft collapse is costly in home date
5:41pm Friday 30th August 2013 in Sport
TOFT’S first team were toppled by Oxton – and their Worcestershire all-rounder Shaaiq Choudhry – in a 77-runs defeat in the county league’s Premier Division on Saturday.
Spin king Jimmy Lomas (3-87) passed 60 wickets for the season as the visitors rattled up 233-6 – the section’s biggest total of the weekend – supported by Jake Dickenson (3-66) as Choudhry (61no), skipper Simon Stokes (70) and Alex Hughes (51) each contributed a half-century.
Toft reached 100-1 thanks to Jake Hancock (55) and Henry Hughes (41) only for spinner Choudhry (6-63) to be a catalyst for a collapse that saw the last seven batsmen contribute only 12 runs between them.
“That was our worst performance of the season,” said Toft captain Toby Drummond after the hosts were dismissed for 156.
“The target now is to win two of our three remaining matches to reach 10 for the season.
“That would be a fantastic achievement for a young team.”
Toft seconds lost by six wickets at lowly Middlewich, where 14-year-old James Hodgson tooka maiden wicket in senior cricket.
