Relegation threat over
KNUTSFORD secured their place in the Cheshire Women’s League’s top tier for another season after a single goal success at home to Golborne on Saturday.
A 1-0 win, coupled with Winnington Park’s failure to beat Wrexham Glyndwr, made sure the risk of relegation was eliminated.
There was extra reason to celebrate too; Knutsford had not shut out an opponent since a stalemate with Oxton in November, a sequence of 12 matches without a clean sheet.
Knutsford’s men brought the curtain down on their latest campaign in the North West League’s second division in thrilling fashion after sharing 10 goals with Chester seconds.
It all but secures a fourth place finish for the Black Knights; Formby seconds can pinch that spot from them, but they need to reach double figures against Rhyl & District to do so.
Knutsford’s focus now is in next month’s Cheshire Plate final against Neston South Wirral.
The men’s second string continued their fine finish to the season in Division Five South, a 4-2 win at home to Bangor City their third in the past four games.
George Nairn, Richard Jones, David Riley and Mike Leaning were on target for Knutsford.
The club’s hosts its annual end of season dinner this Saturday.
North West Men’s League Division Two, Saturday: Chester 2nds 5 Knutsford 5. Division Five South: Knutsford 2nds 4 Bangor City 2. Cheshire Women’s League Division One: Knutsford 1 Golborne 0.
