Weekend of mixed fortunes for Knutsford's hockey men
KNUTSFORD’S men scored eight goals across two games, winning one and losing another, in a weekend double-header in the North West Hockey League’s Division Two.
The Black Knights edged Wilmslow by the odd goal in seven at Westfield Drive on Saturday, only to succumb to relegation–threatened Prescot the following day.
The hosts scored four times again, only to leak five more at the other end.
It leaves them placed fifth in the standings with three games left, a point adrift of Macclesfield ahead of them.
Knutsford men’s seconds lost 2-1 at their Wilmslow counterparts in Division Five South, although the club’s third team did savour a success the same day.
They were 3-1 winners, Will Hewins opening the scoring following a swift counter attack.
Teenage duo Joe Lasham and Gwil Rees, both 16-years-old, played a part in Knutsford’s second, their pressure leading to deflected goal.
Nick Young drilled into the net with power to make it 3-0, a consolation for the hosts completing the scoring.
Knutsford’s women have two matches left, both at home, to preserve their place in the Cheshire League’s top tier for next season.
A 2-0 defeat at relegation rivals Oxton on Saturday leaves them level on points with their conquerors who have a game in hand.
