Maxwell looking to make an impact in Lombard Trophy

KNUTSFORD Golf Club are the first to enter this year’s edition of the Lombard Trophy.

The club’s professional, Tim Maxwell, hopes to make history too by playing in the competition’s grand final, scheduled to take place at Ryder Cup venue Gleneagles in September, for the first time in his career.

“It is a great event and one the club always enters," said Maxwell, who has been head pro at Knutsford for the past six years.

“I enjoy playing in the Lombard Trophy with the members; it’s something we always look forward to.

“I've entered every year over the past decade but unfortunately have never qualified for the last day.

“Hopefully we can make some sort of impact this year, especially as I’ve never played at Gleneagles. Reaching the final would be the perfect way to achieve that.”

Knutsford will play in one of 16 regional qualifiers at Dunham Forest in July.

With a share of an £80,000 prize fund to play for, including £12,000 for the winning pro, there is plenty of incentive to progress.
