MOBBERLEY A have recaptured a title taken off them by Royal London in last season’s Knutsford and District Amateur League.

Buoyed by a 41 break by Tony Crompton, they recorded the win they required against Shaw Heath to make their own top spot in Division One with five weeks left.

It means Mobberley A have finished first in three of the past four years. Second spot is still up for grabs, Wilmslow Cons A taking a temporary hold after beating clubmates Wilmslow Cons B.

Tatton are close behind after whitewashing lowly Mere A, while Brook Street beat Morley on aggregate in the other game played.

Division Two pacesetters Mobberley C won four frames but lost on points to Royal London.

Wilmslow RBL won all seven frames against Mere C to close the gap to top spot, while Knutsford Cons A edged their clubmates in the final derby of the season.

Meanwhile on Thursday, Shaw Heath B stayed in third position after thrashing Mobberley D while Mere B lost on aggregate to guests Wilmslow Cons C.

Morley, represented by Paul Hart, Jason Robinson and Derek Stubbs, claimed a maiden success in the Three Player competition after beating three Mobberley teams en route.

They recorded a 21-point victory in the final, which followed a 107-point win against Mobberley A in the last four.

Mobberley C fell to Morley in the quarter finals.

Champion Gary Long (Brook Street) crashed out of the Rotary Cup at the quarter finals stage against Morley’s Paul Hart.

His club will still be represented in the last four by Andy Long, who has been paired with Knutsford Cons’ Francis Evans for finals day in April.

In the other half of the draw, Mark Newall (Mobberley A) is the only previous winner still in contention. He lifted the trophy in 2005.

John Higgins (Wilmslow Cons) stands in his way next following victories without conceding a frame against Mere pair Tom Jackson and Geoff Jackson.
