PROMOTION favourites Rhyl completed a double over Knutsford in the North West League following a single goal success on Saturday.

The Black Knights had been unbeaten in their previous three matches in Division Two, matching their longest sequence without defeat in the section this season.

They stay fifth in the standings despite losing, with Bangor University their guests this weekend.

Knutsford men’s seconds registered only their fourth win of the season in Division Five South, but the points earned after a 5-2 defeat of their Wrexham Glyndwr counterparts will be precious in their pursuit of safety in the table’s basement.

Meanwhile Knutsford’s thirds could not put a blemish on Alderley Edge sixths’ unbeaten league record in Division Eight South East, losing 3-1 at Westfield Drive.

Skipper Steve Hope held together the defence against strong opponents, who established a decisive 3-0 lead before Rob Scovell bundled in a consolation for the hosts with time running out.

Knutsford’s women resume their fight for survival in the Cheshire League’s top tier this Saturday, when third-placed Sale are their guests.

The hosts are three points better off, with five games left, than the teams currently in the relegation zone.
