TONY Crompton took home the first piece of silverware on offer in the Knutsford and District Amateur League this week.

The competition secretary, who plays for Mobberley, defeated clubmate Bob Spilsbury in a close final for the Redwood Hire Champions Trophy, the highlight of which was a 41 break in the second frame.

In the last four, Crompton edged Mere’s David Jackson while Spilsbury won by the odd frame against fellow Mobberley man Mark Newall.

Crompton’s week was one to remember; he amassed 105 points for champions-elect Mobberley A in a whitewash of strugglers Mere A in the top tier.

Mobberley B ceded a single frame to Brook Street in another one-sided contest, while Morley squeezed past Tatton in a low-scoring match.

Wilmslow Cons A hold on to second spot in the table after a 5-2 win at Shaw Heath.

Mobberley C’s lead at the Division Two summit is worth 14 points after a whitewash of rock-bottom Mere C.

Wilmslow RBL are next best after a solid win against Mere B, while Shaw Heath B kept alive their hopes of being promoted after proving too strong for Knutsford Cons B.

There were wins too for Knutsford Cons A and fourth-placed Wilmslow Cons C against Mobberley D and Royal London respectively.
