THERE will be a different name on the Knutsford and District Amateur Snooker League’s Jay Trophy this term after holder Jonathan Smith was forced to withdraw.
Highlight of this week’s opening round was Mobberley man Tony Crompton’s success against John Higgins (Wilmslow Cons A), a contest in which both players amassed more than 100 points in a frame for the first time in the competition’s history.
Crompton edged through on the final black in the third frame, the contest’s overall aggregate setting a new best too.
In the Team Knockout Cup, Knutsford Cons A won by 49 points against Division Two rivals Royal London while Mobberley C beat Shaw Heath B by a margin of 30.
Team Knockout Cup last 16 (to be played on Thursday, January 3): Knutsford Cons A v Mobberley C; Knutsford Cons B v Mobberley A; Mere A v Wilmslow Cons A; Mere B v Mobberley B; Mere C v Brook Street; Morley v Shaw Heath A; Tatton v Mobberley D; Wilmslow Cons B v Wilmslow RBL.
