Derby spoils for Holmes Chapel as Knutsford pause for thought

Knutsford 7 Holmes Chapel 24

KNUTSFORD’S wait for a first win against Holmes Chapel, and in turn of this season, will last a little longer following a weekend derby defeat.

It means Blues now break for a fortnight with a sequence of nine successive defeats in rugby union's South Lancashire & Cheshire League Division Three behind them.

For Chapel, who record back-to-back wins for the first time this term, the table makes for more encouraging viewing.

They were merciless in punishing defensive lapses by the hosts at Knutsford Academy, scoring twice – and converting one – to lead 12-0 at the interval.

A third try followed early in the second half, leaving the hosts with too much to do especially as they had a man sent to the sin bin.

Knutsford did avoid a blank though, capping a spell of sustained pressure with a deserved try for second row Rob Hardman, converted by Ben Fawcett.

They continued to press but ceded a string of penalties due to poor discipline, one of which added three points to Chapel’s tally.

Blues pushed for another try, only to be caught on the counter attack with time running out as the men from Station Road maintained of bragging rights, for now at least.

They will be hopeful of making it a hat-trick of wins with penultimate-bottom Linley due in town this weekend, kick off 2.15pm.

Knutsford invite new players to join them at training every Tuesday and Thursday.
