Knights are downed

KNUTSFORD suffered a first defeat of the season on Saturday, losing at home to Lymm.

The Warrington outfit left Westfield Drive with maximum points after a 5-3 success, a win that propels them into a promotion place in the North West Men’s Hockey League second tier.

The Black Knights, who had avoided defeat in each of their four previous matches, will hope to bounce back at the first attempt when they visit Prescot at the weekend.

Knutsford’s seconds will have to wait a little longer to savour a maiden success after losing 4-1 against their Lymm counterparts in Division Five South.

They conceded twice in a five minutes spell before halving their arrears when Rob Scovell scored a rare goal at the far post.

The visitors attacked more in the second half, going close through Rich Jones, but their hosts doubled their tally before the final whistle to inflict a fifth defeat on Knutsford this term.

The men’s thirds avoided a clean sweep of reverses after sharing the spoils with Macclesfield fourths following a 1-1 draw.

Knutsford’s ladies resume their Cheshire League campaign at Bowdon fourths this weekend, where they hope to record a victory of the season.

The seconds host Chester fourths in Division Five.

North West League Division Two, Saturday: Knutsford 3 Lymm 5. Division Five South: Lymm 2nds 4 Knutsford 2nds 1. Division Eight South East: Macclesfield 4ths 1 Knutsford 3rds 1.
