TWO major new rides feature among the line up at this year’s Royal May Day Fun Fair in Knutsford, including a one-of-a-kind attraction sure to please thrill seekers.

The event, which is the largest fun fair taking place in the UK over the bank holiday, features well over 50 rides and attractions.

Travelling from Scotland specially to attend this year’s fair will be the Super Spin, a high tech white-knuckle ride featuring six four-seater gondolas that perform a series of hair-raising somersaults as they spin around two axes.

Thanks to ergonomic seating, however, the experience is also incredibly smooth, leaving riders spun but not shaken.

Fair-goers will also be able to reach for the sky on the Millennium, a giant wheel that lifts over 70ft high.

Passengers sit around the outside of the wheel in safely-secured gondolas that swing out so that riders face forwards for the duration of the ride – and turn upside down at the top.

The attraction is the only ride of its kind in the UK and offers a breathtaking way to see the fair from the air.

“We’re really pleased to introduce these two new rides to Knutsford this May Day,” says fair organiser John Collins.

“However, we appreciate that this event is enjoyed by all ages so that’s why we’ve also got a great selection of family-focused attractions. My personal favourite are the Dodgems, and we’ve got three separate tracks to cater for demand.”

KATIE Smith was crowned at this year's Knutsford Royal May Day after hundreds of people gathered for the annual procession.

Remember to pick up your copy of the Knutsford Guardian for the souvenir pull-out, which will be filled with pictures and May Day information.

THE fun at the fair kicked off at 6pm on Thursday night, April 30, and continues through until Bank Holiday Monday. A free firework display will also take place from the back of The Heath on Sunday night.

“We love coming to Knutsford each year,” comments Manchester-based Collins, “In fact the fair has played an integral part in the May Day celebrations now for over a century.

As a thank you for the support the fair has received over the years, the fair has distributed thousands of pounds of discount vouchers via local shops and businesses so families can enjoy all the fun of the fair for less in these trying times.”

As well as those attractions already mentioned, others include the Frisbee, Superbowl, Top Spin, Waltzer, Rockin’ Tug, Tagada, Vertigo, Ski Jump, Ghost Train and many more.

All this is in addition to a great selection of children’s rides, games and food outlets, making it easily the North West’s largest annual fun fair.

The Royal May Day Fun Fair takes place on The Heath in Knutsford from April 30 to May 4.

Open Thursday and Friday from 6pm until late and Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday from 1pm until late. Entry is free.
