Vale Royal & Knutsford Ramblers by Steve Thomas

Thirty three people joined the Vale Royal and Knutsford Ramblers coach for the short hop to Ruthin in North Wales. The B and C groups alighted first at Loggerheads country park. Barbara Penlington and Dhara the dog, took the C group through Llanferres and around Fron Hen to reach Bwlch Penbarra and then down to Ruthin after nine miles with 1200ft of climbing.

The B group, led by Chris Davies, went around Ffrith Mountain, accidentally to Moel Famau, to avoid a mountain bike event, and then descended to Moel Arthur car park and around the base of Moel Famau to Ruthin after 13 miles with 2400ft of ascent.

The D group was led by Ken McKenzie and started in Ruthin. They went along the River to Rhewl and back across fields to complete a pleasant seven mile stroll.

John Kummer took the A group on a brisk 17 mile circuit of the Vale of Clwyd from Ruthin with 2400ft of ascent heading out to their high point of Pincyn Llys then back through Cyffylliog and Rhewl before returning to Ruthin. The weather was sunny and warm and refreshment facilities in Ruthin were open until our departure.

The next trip will be to Cartmel in Cumbris on Sunday, September 27. For more details and to book a seat, please phone Barbara Ward 01565 651765
