Vale Royal and Knutsford Ramblers by Steve Thomas
Forty three Vale Royal and Knutsford ramblers joined the coach to Baslow. The A group, led by Mike Bromwich, alighted at Housley and headed south over Longstone Moor and then up to Stoney Middleton and Grindleford. Then along White Edge and down to Baslow after 14 miles with 2400ft of ascent.
Judith Halman led the B party. They went north along Curbar Edge and along the river to Grindleford, returning along the same route as the A group; a walk of 12 miles with 1800ft of climbing.
David Brunt took his C party to Chatsworth and completed a loop through Edensor and Rowsley before returning along the River Derwent after nine miles with 1000ft of ascent.
The D group, led by David Eyes went to Pilsley and Edensor before arriving at Chatsworth. An easy stroll up the river bought them back to Baslow after six miles. The weather stayed fine all day and Baslow catered for them well on their return with a tea room and pub open until they left.
The next trip will be to Ruthin, North Wales on Sunday, September 13. For more details, and to book a seat, please contact Cath Thomas 01606 350537.
