Boothsmere WI by Linda Mansell

Boothsmere WI President, Chris Cameron, welcomed members to the recent meeting. Business matters were discussed and dealt with and items read from the Cheshire News. An invitation has been received from Crosstown WI for two members to join them for a celebration lunch on September 10. Members who had attended the centenary celebrations at Gawsworth Hall had enjoyed the day.

There is a trip to Harrogate on September 3, for the WI centennial fair at the Harrogate International Centre. Applications for tickets are being taken for the October council meeting in Winsford with guest speaker Anne Diamond.

Judy Popley who worked at Granada Studies in the 70's and 80's was the guest speaker. Granada was started in 1956 by Sydney and Cecil Bernstein who had chose the name after their favourite place in Spain. Starting in the press office, Judy moved through the different departments working for various directors, there was plenty of name dropping.

There was a trip down memory lane for members as Judy reeled off the names of the celebrities that she had met through the productions she had worked on starting with Crown Court, Brideshead Revisited, Sherlock Holmes with Jeremy Brett, Jewel in the Crown, Coronation Street and many more. Jean Heap gave the vote of thanks.

The next meeting is on Monday, September 14.
