A GROUP of 36 ramblers joined the coach to Bakewell in the Derbyshire Peak District recently. All groups began their walks at the Bakewell showground. Mike Bromwich took the A group to Chatsworth House then onto the ridge and along to Calver returning though Pilsley after 14 miles with 2,500ft of climbing.
Judith Halman took the B group to Stanton in the Peak and the Nine Ladies stone circle before descending to Rowsley and returning through the woodland after 12 miles with 1,800ft of climbing.
The C group, led by Steve Thomas, followed the A group to Chatsworth and returned via Rowsley after nine-and-a-half miles with 1,000ft of ascent.
Ken McKenzie took the D group up the River Wye to Ashford-in-the-water to see the well dressing then returned along the Monsal Trail after seven miles with 700ft of climbing. The weather was great with sunshine all day. Back in Bakewell they enjoyed their summer meal at the Rutland Arms where they were fed heartily.
