Lower Peover WI by Glynis Knott

Sonia McCann was guest speaker at the recent meeting of Lower Peover WI. She introduced members to the Vine project, a charity supporting the education and progress of young people, orphaned by Aids, in South Africa. They also support the grandmothers who have sole care of orphaned children. Gradually both the grandmothers and young people are making significant progress, the grandmothers are creating their own income by making and selling jewellery and the young people who are attending school and moving to universities or employment. Well done Sonia and her team.

The monthly book club meetings are continuing and lead to discussions on wide ranging subjects. There have been several walks, some with lunch and plan are underway for entries for the Cheshire Show.

Two members joined the WI celebratory garden party in London, they had a great time and chased the odd hat blown off in the wind. They are also planning other visits and activities throughout the year and are hosting the county walk in August when they hope to see friends from other WI groups. It’s a busy time of year.

Meetings are on the first Wednesday of the month in Lower Peover school hall at 7.30pm. Visitors are most welcome to join them.
