THIRTY-FIVE ramblers joined the coach early on Sunday morning, May 24, for the trip to Bolton Abbey, Yorkshire.

The D and A groups alighted first close to Embsay. David Eyes took his D group through Draughton and Hawpike Farm to Bolton Bridge and then up the River Warfe to Bolton Abbey completing a pleasant seven-mile stroll.

By contrast, John Kummer took the A group over rough moorland to Crag Top, Rylestone Cross and around Thorpe Fell before descending to the Wharfe and strolling back to the coach after 16 miles with 2500ft of climbing. The B and C groups began their walks at Bolton Abbey.

Grahame Reid took his B group up the Valley of Desolation and onto Simon’s Seat before descending to Howgill and following the Wharfe back to the Abbey after 12 miles and 2000ft of ascent. Steve Thomas took the C group around the ruined Abbey and then up to Hare Head and down to the Strid.

Another climb took them past Beamsley Hospital and then back along the river.

All had a dry day and finished in sunshine.

The tea rooms were closing on returning and only the A group went the extra mile to the pub and back.

The next trip will be to Bakewell in Derbyshire on Sunday, June 7, including the summer meal. For more details please phone Barbara Ward 01565 651765.
