Speaker for the evening, Eric Newton played his clarinet during the tea break and members were left spellbound by his life time experiences. He was born in Stoke and began playing the clarinet at the age of 17 and joined a jazz group. Music became his first love and to finance his music education at the Northern College of Music he took up busking which led to a varied career, busking all over the country, even playing in Australia whilst on holiday.
As the years of smoking and drinking took its toll, he turned to marathon running to get fit. He ran the London Marathon while playing his clarinet and became a local celebrity.
The next meeting will be on June 8. Visitors always very welcome.
