Vale Royal and Knutsford Ramblers joined the first coach of the New Year on a cold and frosty morning to journey to Loggerheads Country Park in North Wales recently.

The D walk was led by Ken McKenzie. He took them along the level Lette path before climbing to Cilcain and around Frith Mountain, returning after six miles and 1000ft of climbing.

Judy Cross took her C party through the Aberduna Nature reserve to Moel Findeg, returning via Deborah’s Well after eight miles of walking.

The B group, led by Chris Davies, climbed Moel Famau via the shoulder of Frith Mountain before descending to Llanferres and returning across the fields after ten miles with 1900ft of ascent.

The A walk led by Ian Hilditch went around Moel Famau to ascend via the infamously steep Nant-Y-No western gully and returned to Loggerheads after 12 miles with 2500ft of ascent.

The weather was fantastic, with hardly a cloud in the sky and it was cold enough to freeze the mud. It was a great start to the New Year. Thanks to the coach organisers for making it possible.

The next trip will be to Hebden Bridge (home of the Happy Valley TV series) on Sunday, January 18. To reserve your seat, or for further details please contact Barbara Ward on 01565 651765.
