Jodrell Side WI

The October meeting of Jodrell Side WI was Members’ Night, and Maureen Kenyon was President for the evening. She introduced Caroline Melliar-Smith who gave a very entertaining talk, “Film & TV Making” about her career as a film extra, which she embarked on after her retirement. Shirley Britton presented Maureen Walmsley with a garden token and plant as Maureen is leaving the village and moving to North Yorkshire. Maureen has been a member of Jodrell Side WI from its very early days and will be greatly missed. Pat Hurdle won the competition for a decorative cup and saucer, and Marion Taylor won the group competition for a favourite scarf.

September had been a successful month for members. Thelma Carter, Diane Blake and Pat Alston were the winning team at the Dane Valley Fun Quiz night with Belinda Wild, Mary Phillips and Ellen Humphries coming third. The Bowling team came second in the league, and Marion Taylor was joint first on the Bowls Fun Day. Well done to all!

Several members joined in the rail trip to Southport, enjoying a lovely day with beautiful weather. Pat Ingram, Marion Taylor and Pat Alston visited Denman College for the Taster Day. This was a full on experience with great courses in lovely surroundings. Pat Ingram and Marion produced some lovely silk painted items on their course and Pat Alston managed to produce a drawing of an apple. Several members went to the CFWI Autumn meeting where the speaker was Pru Leith, who gave an entertaining talk on her life both personally and professionally.
