PRESIDENT Bernadette O’Donnell welcomed members and visitors to the October meeting of Little Leigh WI.

Everyone then embarked on a “Walk along the River Dee”, starting at its source in the Welsh Hills. This was not literally of course, but through an educational and amusing talk given by Hugh Begg.

Hugh explained how the river was formed and took his audience along its journey, using slides, from its humble beginnings to the Dee Estuary.

He was thanked by Cath Smith.

A birthday party at the Cock ‘o’ Budworth is planned, and Cath reminded members they had until October 15 to hand in their menu choices if they wished to attend. Ideas were asked for a design for the Special Little Leigh WI Centenary Dish.

Nesta Butterworth won the special raffle, and a card had been received to thank Bernadette and Elsie (Evans) for judging at the recent Little Leigh Village Show.

Calendars and diaries will be available to collect at the November meeting.

Further news included a group meeting at Winsford with tickets now available to see Chris Knight with “My Olympic Dream” steam train ride in Wales in 2015; and a Little Leigh Choir is to be formed for the group carol service, more details to follow.

The competition, “A Halloween mask made by you” was won by Jan Whalley with Elsie Evans second.

The next meeting is the AGM with a social evening and finger buffet on November 5. The competition will be “A winter photograph taken by you”.
