Several High Legh WI members visited Llanfairpwll in August recently and enjoyed a Treasure Hunt around Lymm with a meal afterwards at The Spread Eagle. They are hoping to repeat it again next year.

The flowers from the Presidents table, arranged by Elaine Readitt were sent to Pat Brereton who has been in hospital.

The ramblers are off to Wilmslow for a five mile walk along the river Bollin to Quarry Bank in Styal. There is a trip to the ballet to see Beauty and the Beast in September and a trip to Whitby has been booked for next year.

There was a full house for the September meeting when members enjoyed listening to speaker Kathy Lewis, a light classical soprano singer who worked on cruises. She started with P&O and after 13 years decided to take a break. It didn't happen as she was contacted by Viking Cruises, who had heard that she had left P&O and asked her to join them.

Being Kathy, she decided to give it a try. She had many hilarious stories about the bands she sang with and how nationalities differ in their response to a show. She learned passages of Japanese to introduce her act when Toyota had used the boat for a conference cruise.

Little did she know that the gentleman who had offered to help her with her pronunciation was Mr Toyota himself. Her talk was so much appreciated that members said they would love to hear her again.

The competition for a holiday postcard was won by Val Challis.

The next meeting is October 14 with speaker Brian Hallworth and a talk entitled 'Not Through the Front Door'. Visitors welcome.
