OVER Peover WI had their summer dinner at Byley Farm at the end of August. The food and service were wonderful.

They observed a minute’s silence out of respect for two very dear members who died in August; Connie Welton and Audrey Mottershead.

The warm and friendly atmosphere and good company enhanced a lovely meal as they remembered with fondness two ladies who had contributed so much and will be sadly missed.

Guest speaker for the meeting was Fatima, an oriental belly dancer.

Fatima explained the origins of the dance with amazing animated facial expressions and a wonderful turn of phrase, part Liverpudlian, part Ancient Egyptian. Members were inveigled into joining in her oriental cabaret, it was delightful.

They also heard about “Otzi the Iceman” from Peter and Simon Rose. Otzi was about 45 years old when he died on the Italian/Austrian border, he was preserved by the dry air and snow and ice for about 5,200 years!

Otzi had so much equipment and so many personal items on and around him. These have told the historians so much about the life he led but controversy still rages in historical circles about the cause of his death. It was mesmerising stuff.

Meetings are at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall.

There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere and new members are very welcome.
