VALE Royal and Knutsford Ramblers enjoyed a coach trip outing to Grindleford in Derbyshire.

The 45 members were delighted to see that two days of relentless rain were over and that sunshine filled the sky.

The first stop was at Stoney Middleton where the B group, led by Rob Pemberton, alighted. Rob led his band down Combe Dale to Hassop and its unusual church before taking in some edges and descending to Grindleford after 12 miles and 2,000ft of ascent.

The other members alighted at Grindleford station, and Rose Chisholm led the A group over Flask Edge to the outskirts of Totley. From there they traversed Houndkirk and Burbage Moors and descending via Carl Wark back to Grindleford, a walk of 14.5miles and 2200ft of ascent.

David Brunt took the C group along Froggatt and Curbar edges before descending to Calver and followed the river path back to Grindleford. A tea stop at the community shop added a nice break before finishing the walk after nine miles with 1,000ft of ascent.

The D group, led by Ken McKenzie, took the easy riverside path to Hathersage. After some shop browsing and refreshment, they returned via Hathersage Booths and Upper Padley after five miles and around 500ft of climbing.

It was a great day out for all, thanks to dedication of the leaders and coach organisers.

The next coach is on August 17. It will pick up from Knutsford, Northwich, Weaverham and Frodsham, and will take members to Llandudno where four grades of walk will be available.
