CO-president Pam Cowburn welcomed members to the July meeting of Cranford WI.

She congratulated all those who had worked so hard on their entry for the Cheshire Show, which was awarded third prize in one of the combined craft and produce classes. Pam was awarded Highly Commended in the individual art class.

Pam introduced the speakers for the meeting; Ann and John Christopher, who showed examples of their work as potters. They spoke about how pottery has been made and used around the home for thousands of years.

Each member was given a small piece of clay and asked to inscribe their initials. They were collected and moulded into a large bowl which was taken away to be fired and glazed.

The finished bowl will be presented to the institute. Vice-president, Judith Fryer thanked Ann and John for a wonderfully enjoyable and entertaining afternoon.

The next meeting will be today, Wednesday, at 2pm in the Jubilee Hall, Knutsford.

New members and visitors are always welcome.
