OUR June meeting was well attended considering it is holiday time. Thirty eight members came to listen to our speaker Gill Young, The Bag Lady.

Her father made leather handbags, and her mother was a seamstress, so Gill had the craft in her genes.

She has made over 55 quilts, many of which she has given away but thankfully she has kept a number to bring to show us how talented she is.

It takes her at least two years to hand make a quilt, and one she showed us took her 16 years, the size and the pattern explained why. She also brought the hand made quilted handbags she has made.

Needless to say her house is taken over by her craft. Gwen Smith gave the vote of thanks, as she herself has just been introduced to quilting, and she said it does become an obsession, and Gill agreed with her.

After the tea break president, Norma Wright, presented the flowers from the table to Joyce Brow, who has a significant birthday approaching, and with thanks for all the help she has given to us over the years of her membership.

Our Sunday teas at the Village Hall were financially very successful, plus a bric a brac stall, all the helpers were thanked plus everyone who baked so many delicious cakes.

The walking group did a five-and-a-half mile walk around Mobberley, finishing with lunch at the Railway Pub.

Next walk is July 1 around Acton Bridge for four miles, finishing with lunch at the Legh Arms.

The book reading group is reading Instructions in a Heatwave by Maggie O’Farrell Competition for a small item of patchwork was won by Jenny Morton.

Next meeting is on July 8 at 7.30pm in the village hall with Crime and Punishment in Dickensian London by Michael Murphy.

Visitors very welcome.
