CHRIS Cameron welcomed members to the May meeting of Boothsmere WI.

Announcements were made regarding various activities and trips, including a visit to the National Arboretum on June 11, and a day trip to the Lake District on July 9.

The WI Resolution to encourage an increase in organ donation was then discussed. At present 7,000 people at any one time are awaiting transplants.

However, only 49 out of every million have agreed to donate their organs.

Chris Tricker urged members to vote for the resolution and to persuade family and friends to make their wishes known by carrying a donor card.

Members supported the motion.

As the booked speaker was unwell, guest David Tricker kindly stepped in with a talk entitled “My New Zealand”. Together with his wife Pat, he has visited New Zealand 20 times over the years.

Although New Zealand’s land mass is 10 per cent larger than the UK its population is 15 per cent lower. Therefore ease of travel and large areas of natural beauty make the country an ideal place to visit.

Members found his fascinating talk with slide show most enjoyable.

On May 22 Boothsmere celebrated its 46th birthday.

The food and entertainment organised and prepared by the hard working committee was excellent and a grand time was had by all.

The next meeting will be held on June 9. Judy Baker from the Casualties Union will be the guest speaker.
