OVER Peover WI members don’t let the grass grow under their feet – Zumba classes, bunting sewing, jewellery making and entries for the Cheshire Show are proof of that.

A talk from an ex-policeman on ‘The Lighter Side of Hotel Security’ included juicy snippets about famous guests at the Midland Hotel and amusing anecdotes about the more eccentric ones.

Members were full of trepidation, when the Rev Michael Burgess gave a talk about ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’, but it soon became clear that he is the Kenneth Williams of the modern day church.

With wickedly clever humour, he made them laugh until their sides hurt, neatly getting his message across. It was truly good entertainment.

‘A Cure for Nostalgia’ was a tale of the rise from errand boy to full-blown apothecary, involving maggots, leeches and poison bottles!

Alison Maude celebrated her 90th birthday and received a floral basket from members.

Volunteers were plenty for planting up flower tubs for the village hall and a watering rota, as well as the annual spring clean of the hall.

They voted for the NFWI resolution to encourage members to donate organs after death and make their wishes known.

Many trips and visits are planned for the summer, so they are hoping for good weather.

Meetings are at 7.30pm on the last Thursday of the month at Over Peover Village Hall.

There is a friendly and welcoming atmosphere – speakers are invariably of a very high standard, and so are the delicious homemade cakes and tea to follow.

New members are very welcome.
