AT the recent meeting in the Whipping Stocks, Knutsford and District Lions members agreed to make arrangements for a special event in the town for World Sight Day in October.

Knutsford Lions, like many other Lions Clubs, collect unwanted spectacles for recycling in third world countries which can be deposited at the Heritage Centre.

The club is to benefit, as one of the Town Mayor’s chosen charities, from the £5,000 plus monies raised at the recent Mayor’s Ball, which, attendees agreed had been a great success.

It will also benefit from the recent Beer Festival. Help had been provided by members during the two days it took place and had been enjoyed by many.

An Easter raffle at Booths Supermarket on April 11 and 12 raised a total of £496.10.

Grateful thanks go to the generous people who supported the raffle and to Booths for hosting the event.

The money raised will be added to the Lions Charity account and used to help those in need in the coming months.

Arrangements are in hand for the annual street fair which takes place on spring bank holiday, May 26. Local Scouts and Guides will help to hand out programmes in exchange for a donation.

The event is a great day out for all the family with music and other entertainment, charity and commercial stalls and lots of colour.

Several members and friends enjoyed an excellent lunch at Macclesfield College at the end of March.

An amble followed by lunch took place on Sunday, April 13. Several other social activities were discussed including the Clubs Charter Anniversary celebration on May 16.

The efforts to encourage new membership continue. Anyone interested in becoming a member, helping the Lions or just finding out more can visit the website knutsfordlions.org.uk
