CHANCELLOR and Tatton MP George Osborne was guest of honour at third annual meeting of local 'export champions'.

Mr Osborne updated the group on what the Government is doing to promote British exports and how the UK will prosper from a strong partnership with China.

He fielded a range of questions, including the progress being made in particular industrial sectors.

The meeting was organised by David Thompson, managing director of D G Thompson International Limited, a Knutsford company which exports global brands of premium wines and spirits, and UKTI North West.

Mr Thompson said: "The theme of the meeting was to increase export to existing markets and to develop new emerging markets. The help given by the Chancellor and UKTI has been substantial and started many companies on the road to exporting."

Mr Osborne said: “It is always very useful to spend time talking with these great exporting businesses that are so important to the British economy. The companies I met today are positive about future trading prospects but there is always more that Government can do to support our firms and I am determined to help them wherever I can."
