GEORGE Osborne opened a Knutsford church's new community cafe on Friday.
The Tatton MP and Chancellor of the Exchequer visited St John’s Church to officially open the new project, while inspecting the recent restoration and improvement works.
George was shown around by the Rev Nigel Atkinson and cafe manager Bianca Reeve, where he enjoyed a cuppa with residents.
The congregation has spent several years raising funds to reorder the church, restoring the building whilst providing modern facilities to meet 21st century needs.
Run by volunteers, they aim to serve the 'best coffee in Knutsford'.
George said: “The cafe is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the St. John’s congregation.
"They have worked hard to make the church a more welcoming place and I have no doubt that it will be a popular hub for the whole community. I can personally recommend the coffee!
“Fundraising is nearly complete for phase two of the works and I can’t wait to see the improvements to the exterior of this historic building."
