Fears over more holes in the road

KNUTSFORD people have told the Guardian about their concerns over the condition of the town’s roads.

Residents believe the roads are worse than ever – and with the winter coming up will only get worse. Resident David Gregory has concerns about Leycester Road, in particular where it meets Croft Lane.

The road is often used by townspeople as a ‘short cut’ if the town centre is congested.

Mr Gregory said: “I use Leycester Road to get my paper from the garage on Toft Road and there is an enormous pothole near Croft Lane.

“I’ve reported it on three occasions but nothing has been done. There are more in Leycester Road and something needs to be done. You have to think about what damage has been done to all the cars.

“A couple of the potholes in the area have had white paint sprayed around them, so someone must be looking into it.”

A council spokesman said: “Cheshire East Council takes road safety very seriously.

“Potholes have presented us with a battle over the past few years after a succession of severe winters.

“Leycester Road will have road gullies and carrier drains installed to tackle the problem of surface road water. This project will mark further significant investment in our roads and will be programmed over a number of years.

“The first section from the junction of Chelford Road has already been installed and there will be regular safety inspections.

“Residents can be assured any defects which present a hazard to highway users will be promptly repaired.”
