A GOOSTREY firm set up less than a year ago at the historic Blackden Hall has scooped a BBC Good Food award for its products.
Pig & Co is a new family business set up by former advertising manager Julian Price.
His company produces free range, rare breed gourmet sausages, dry cured bacons and hams from their own pigs.
They have gone down so well that the firm has been selected from a huge number of entries as a winner of the 2012 BBC Good Food Producers Bursary Award scheme.
BBC Good Food supports new, small British food and drink producers by running the Producers Bursary Awards scheme.
Julian told the Guardian the judges scour the country to find the best artisan producers, who are put through a rigorous application process, followed by a shortlisted tasting of products by a panel of BBC Good Food experts.
Pig & Co is one of six selected producers to be chosen to exhibit at the flagship show, the BBC Good Food Show Winter at the NEC in Birmingham from November 28 to December 2.
Julian Price, owner of Pig & Co, said: “We are honoured and over the moon at winning this fantastic opportunity in our first year.
“Pig & Co has only been trading for nine months, and we are very proud of what we have achieved in that short time.
“We produce all our natural, gluten free products from our own small herd of Large Black, Large White, Gloucester Old Spot and Saddleback pigs.
“We do everything ourselves, from pig to plate, to ensure that the quality of our product is the best it can be.
“It’s been a steep learning curve, but worth it, and this award shows that we have a great tasting gourmet product, from the highest possible welfare free range pigs, and we are looking forward enormously to attending the BBC Good Food show at the NEC in the Producers’ Village.”
