THE sights, sounds, smells and tastes of a traditional street market came to Knutsford on Sunday.

Nearly 100 stalls lined Princess Street, selling everything from Caribbean chocolate to wicker crafts.

Denise Valente and Vicky Jackson, who run the award-winning artisan market in Wilmslow and Middlewich, brought the one-off event to the town.

The ‘Michaelmas market’ was blessed with sunshine and attracted hundreds of visitors, which has prompted the town council to look into the possibility of organising a repeat of the event.

“Knutsford artisan market completely exceeded our expectations,” said Vicky.

“Princess Street was packed, the reception we received from people was exceptional and they embraced what we were trying to achieve with amazing enthusiasm.

“It was really great fun and brilliant to see Knutsford so full of life and vitality.”

Entertainment was provided by the Loose Change Buskers, who raised a record £1,120 for Cancer Research on the day.

Clr Andrew Malloy, of Knutsford Town Council, said: “It’s the kind of thing Knutsford has been crying out for years, and I’d like to see more of it.

“At lunchtime there were already stalls selling out, so it was a roaring success.”

Visitor Jonathan Farber said: “The town was electric – it came alive.

“Trade was bustling, people were smiling and the sun was out. What more could you ask for?”

Knutsford Town Council is now appealing for feedback on what residents thought of the specialist market and whether they would like to see it again.

Clr Barbara Coan said: “The more support we get the more we can look at putting it on again.”

The town council is available on 01565 653929.
