2056 Squadron Air Cadets are looking of people to join them for aviation fun and adventures
KNUTSFORD’S Air Cadets are again looking for recruits to boost the group’s numbers.
The 2056 squadron held a successful recruitment drive at the beginning of this year, and as a result more than 20 youngsters turned up at an evening organised to sign up members.
From March to May the recruits carried out a training programme which covered the basics of being a cadet including keeping their uniform clean and smart, learning drill, field craft skills and communication and basic navigation lessons.
The three months training included a full squadron camp, which was a weekend away at Altcar Training Camp, where many of the recruits had the chance to try out target practice using rifles and put their new fieldcraft skills to the test.
In June 16 recruits were enrolled as full cadets, ensuring the Squadron stays a thriving group of young men and women who will continue to gain valuable life skills and nationally-recognised awards which will be useful in any career they follow.
Pilot Officer Natasha Sirley, who is in charge of the group, said an open day was to be held this Saturday from midday to 4pm to make sure the squadron grows.
“Youngsters and parents will be able to visit the squadron to see what it’s all about,” she said.
“It will take place at the headquarters on Blackhill Lane – between Bexton Primary and the Scout hut, and will consist of a presentation by Squadron staff followed by an informal question and answer session as well as the chance to meet serving cadets and talk to them about their experiences in the ATC along with a few hands-on demonstrations.
“Cadet membership is open to youngsters aged between 13 and 17, and they can stay on until they are 20, so if you are keen on aviation, action, adventure, sports and getting to know people, come along and find out more.”
If you are unable to make the open day but are still interested to find out more, come and visit on any Tuesday or Thursday from 7pm to 9.30pm, or e-mail adj.2056@aircadets.org.
