Bavaria returns to town for popular Oktoberfest

KNUTSFORD sports clubs have teamed up to stage a traditional Oktoberfest again next month.

The junior sections of Knutsford Rugby Club and Toft Cricket Club will be staging the event at the club’s ground on Chelford Road.

A marquee will be set up for the evening on Saturday, October 6, which will feature a performance from the Bavarian Stompers.

The band has performed at the previous Knutsford events, and has gained international recognition having performed in Munich marquees.

Colin Kemshead, one of the organisers, said: “We are organising two events over the weekend of October 5 and 6.

“A junior Oktoberfest is being held on the Friday night for children up to 13 years of age, followed by the main event on Saturday night.

“Traditional food will be provided on each night, with the marquee decorated in typical Bavarian style.”

The Saturday Oktoberfest is based on the Bavarian celebrations which take place at this time of year.

Guests will be welcomed by staff in Bavarian costume offering warm genuine German pretzels. The food and drink are typical of that consumed at an Oktoberfest event anywhere in the world.

“The organisers now have an ongoing relationship with the importers of the famous Erdinger bier, produced in their Munich brewery,” Colin added.

“This is one of six independent breweries in Munich that specialise in producing Weissbier, which has proved very popular with event-goers in the past. One litre stein tankards have been obtained to serve this in.

“Steve Connor of Wood’s butchers is again supplying specially-produced sausages.”

The events are fundraisers for the junior sections of the sports clubs. Tickets cost £30, include food and a traditional sing-song and can be obtained by emailing Oktoberfest@live.
