IT was like a day at the races when about 40 people dressed to impress at Toft Cricket Club.

Supporters of Shirley Ryan’s Make My Day charity event raised £450 for Asthma UK.

A champagne reception, lunch and racing afternoon was held in memory of Shirley’s son Nick, who died in November 2004 of an asthma attack aged 28.

She said: “Nick wrote a song called Make My Day, and I said it would make him famous, so I named the event after it.

“Asthma is a serious illness, and people often don’t know how serious it can be.”
