‘We need to use the market or lose it’

USERS of Knutsford’s indoor and outdoor market believe town leaders should support the current traders instead of welcoming companies from outside the town.

Last week it was revealed the organisers of Wilmslow’s award-winning artisan market will be coming to the town for the first time on Sunday, October 7.

Denise Valente and Vicky Jackson have teamed up with Knutsford Town Council for the one-off Michaelmas Market, and as a result Princess Street will be closed to traffic while visitors enjoy the hustle and bustle of the event between 11am and 4pm.

Traders will be selling seasonal local food, artisan breads and meats, delicatessen cheeses and handcrafted items among many other products.

Susan Yates, who is a regular user of Knutsford Indoor Market – which operates on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays – stressed that the current stall-holders needed more support.

“We need to support the market we have got because otherwise we will lose it,” she said.

“It’s a great market and has everything. In last week’s Guardian it read as though there wasn’t a market here already – they need to get their facts straight. We need our council to support our local market that we have here all the time.

“We all love it and we use it and those who don’t are missing out because it’s a great market – it just wants more support.”
