MID Cheshire Line volunteers have been shortlisted for two awards at this year’s National Community Rail Awards to be held on Friday, September 28.

Volunteers have been nominated for the ‘Outstanding Team’ award for their hard work gardening at every station along the line for the North West in Bloom 2011, when the line was awarded at level four ‘thriving’ certificate in the competition.

The Mid Cheshire Line promotional video, Manchester to Chester in 4 minutes 40 seconds, has also been shortlisted for best marketing publication. The video, which pays homage to the London to Brighton classic rail film, has been viewed by almost 6,000 people on YouTube.

It also highlights some of the attractions accessible from stations including Northwich, Knutsford, Hale and Stockport. Mid Cheshire Line volunteers give an average 600 hours each quarter and their efforts make a real difference to improving stations and working to improve services and promoting the line.

John Oates, chairman of the Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, said: “It is great news that Mid Cheshire volunteers have been shortlisted again for these important rail awards – we wish them well on the night.”

Mark Barker, client and stakeholder manager at Northern Rail said: “Volunteers make a real difference on our local lines – we are proud of the work that they do and we know that passengers appreciate their efforts.”
