KNUTSFORD school children will once again be able to go to the town’s cinema free of charge for a week next month as part of National Schools Film Week.
Film Week 2012 will run from Monday, October 15, to to Friday, October 26, during which children will have the choice of seeing Brave, Hugo and Dr Seuss’ The Lorax.
The goal of National Schools Film Week is to support classroom teaching by providing schools with an experience for their students that links to elements of the curriculum, supported by an online library of resources related to individual films and more generic topics.
Last year between 350 and 400 children went to a free screening in Knutsford, with 470,000 students nationwide and their teachers attending the festival in 2011.
Nick Walker, festival director of National Schools Film Week, said: “The festival seeks to create a greater awareness and understanding of cinema based on the concept of relationships and dialogues in a variety of films, address issues of cultural exchange and raise awareness among teaching professionals of the use of film across the school curriculum.
“This is achieved by in-cinema talks and online resources, which give teachers the tools to encourage students to explore and understand new cinematic worlds.”
Maggie Ashworth, manager at the Studio Cinema, said: “The festival is very good for children to broaden their learning.
“The cinema is a great place for the students to get the maximum impact from a film.”
