A SPECIAL showcase highlighting the activities of a Knutsford group has been deemed a great success.

Knutsford U3A held an event in the Cranford Suite at the Civic Centre on Thursday for townspeople interested in signing up to one of the group’s many event committees.

The U3A – University of the Third Age – was set up more than 30 years ago and targeted at those who are no longer in full-term employment.

Groups include art and art appreciation, books, languages, writing for pleasure, play reading, music appreciation, local and family history, computing, needlecraft, various levels of walking and many others.

Sue Hopkin, a co-ordinator at Knutsford U3A, told the Guardian more than 70 new members had signed up on the day.

“It went extremely well,” she said.

“We were overwhelmed with the numbers and there was such a buzz about the place.

“I haven’t had the exact numbers yet, so I don’t know 100 per cent but it could be up to 70 who joined on the day.

“We had our existing members who came and renewed on the same day as well so it was very busy.

“All the group leaders did a wonderful job with their tables, and everyone put in a really tremendous effort.”
