Awards look to honour residents

AN annual awards ceremony to celebrate key figures in the community could be set up by the town council.

Councillors discussed the idea of handing out badges and certificates to Knutsford’s community stalwarts at its latest meeting at the start of this month.

The awards would be given to those nominated by residents for their achievements at the Town Mayor’s Civic Sunday reception, held each year.

Clr Peter Coan added: “This is something that Knutsford Town Council should support.”

But Clr Bernadette Emmett had some concerns.

“I’m concerned about the numbers originally being spoken about,” she said.

“It’s not a special award unless we have a scheme that recognises merit on a much smaller scale.”

Many of the councillors at the meeting said they had experience of awards ceremonies in neighbouring towns and villages, including Poynton, and agreed that this was something they would like to see in Knutsford.

They decided that the subject should be delegated to the council’s events committee to develop the scheme further.
