5:40pm Thursday 6th September 2012 in News
By James Wilson
THE public is being urged to stay away from a path and picnic area close to Pickmere Lake after a huge hole appeared in the ground.
Walkers discovered the 10-feet deep hole on Mere Lane, just to the eastern edge of the lake, this afternoon, Thursday, September 6 and called the Police.
An officer from the Council’s green spaces team has now been dispatched to the site to assess the danger and issue a closure notice.
No one has been hurt.
Do you have a picture of the hole? If so, email it to knutsford@guardiangrp.co.uk.

Pick Mere and Budworth Mere are both thought to be the result of ground water dissolving the halite beds at depth.
Chances are this hole is the result of a similar process. It's not uncommon.
A similar thing happened at Maton Hole near Whitegate. It's grown considerably since the first collapse but the same subsurface processes are thought to have been the cause of its formation.
