Society celebrates LS Lowry
11:20am Friday 7th September 2012 in News
AN exciting new arts society is launching in Holmes Chapel by celebrating LS Lowry’s 125th birthday year.
Jodrell Decorative and Fine Arts Society (JoDFAS) is the latest branch of the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS), providing high quality art and cultural events within the area.
On September 12 Michael Howard will be presenting his lecture ‘LS Lowry, A Visionary artist’.
Michael is a fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and Programme Leader of the School of the history of art and design at Manchester Metropolitan University.
He is a practicing artist who has exhibited at the Royal Academy, and his work is represented in the Manchester Art Gallery.
His short film about Lowry serves as an introduction to the artist’s work and life, at the Lowry Centre.
The group started after they had been visiting another branch regularly for a few years. Inspired by the excellent quality of the lectures, they are now organising a local branch in Holmes Chapel. Lectures take place at the Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School on the second Wednesday in the month. Members pay a yearly subscription and attendance is then free. Each lecture is followed by refreshments.
